ok....so why is this blog post titled "the best weekend" ? i'll tell you why.
this weekend, i went down to salem. you know, salem oregon. the capital? still not ringing a bell? haha. my home for the first 13 years of my life, and is still somewhat of my home. i think home is defined is as where the people you love live. in that case, i have a lot of homes. all over the place. i got to see two of my best friends and catch up. i think it's amazing that after 6 years, i'm still friends with people i knew when i was 13. i wouldn't still be friends with me when i was 13. i was awkward and weird and annoying. either the two of them were the same way or they were saints enough to put up with me. i love these two people from the bottom of my heart. that sounds so cliche, i know, but it's true. hannah is so similar to me. she always understands me, never judges me, and always encourages me. and she is one of the funniest people i've ever met. she truly is a gem of a friend and i am so grateful to have known her for almost 8 years. nathan is another one my best friends. i've known him for what seems like forever and we never run out of things to talk about. he is so witty and sharp. and so smart. he's a real catch.
i will spare you every minute detail of my excursion.....or try to at least. hannah was house-sitting for some people that go to her church. she goes to church in west salem, and the people she was house-sitting for live there too. they had their house built for them and it was SO beautiful. it was up a really huge hill and had a great view. it was also surprisingly quiet and peaceful. on sat night, hannah, her sister leah & i saw the glee movie in 3-D. if i had to describe it in a few words, i would say: life-changing, magical, etc. with the 3-D, you really felt like you were there in the front row. without the screaming people in your ear or people shoving you. or the $200 ticket price. there weren't all that many people in the theater which was surprising because it was the day after it came out, but that turned out to be a good thing as we sang along and danced in our seats. this was definitely needed and appreciated after my giant string of debacles. i was originally just going to post about that, but there were too many good things this weekend that over-shadowed it. anyways, i'm still going to fill you in on it.....
so i was hanging out with nathan at his house and was going to meet hannah & leah at the theater. the movie started at 7:15. i left at 6:45 thinking that was enough time. she told me that the theater was on lancaster (the main drag where all the stores/restaurants are). i asked mr. tomtom (my BEST friend, the gps) to take me to lancaster because i knew the general direction of the movie theater. or at least thought i did. i'm driving along, doing fine, until i accidentally take the wrong exit and get on I-5 NB. how does that even happen? i'll tell you how. "100 yards" is a LOT longer than you would think. what is this, the metric system?? i turned too early. so, i get off at the next exit and figure out (er...stumble) onto lancaster street. i'm going down the road just fine until i get to what i think is the right movie theater. i pull in, find a GREAT parking spot (it's like 6:55 at this point) and get out and get in line. i wasted 5 minutes waiting and then when i got up to the window, i realized that Glee wasn't even showing there. "what the heck?" i thought....the man selling tickets kindly informed me that i was at the wrong theater (um, DUH) and i was looking for the theater down the street. this is where the story defies logic. WHY ARE THERE TWO MOVIE THEATERS WITHIN 2 MILES OF EACH OTHER??!! that is the stupidest thing i have ever heard of. so i get back in my car and go down the road to lancaster mall, where the other theater is attached to. i pull into the first spot i see which was like 80 miles away from the theater. i get in line behind like 6-8 people, thinking it won't take too long. apparently there was a language barrier or something because it took FOREVER to get my ticket. meanwhile, about 20 people had gotten in line behind me. there were 4 windows and only ONE open. i'm sorry movie-theater-employees that you clearly hate your job and working on a saturday night but can't you open at least ONE more window? don't take out your misery on the rest of us! so finally, i get up there (it's like 7:12 at this point), buy my ticket, and get on with my life. the ticket said the movie was playing in theater 2 which i assumed was right there after you walk in. wrong, again. logic-defying, again. there was a theater "1"...and then a "15" and "14". "WHERE THE &(^%$## is THEATER 2?!!!!" i'm thinking to myself. AT THE VERY END OF THE HALL WAY. because that totally makes sense. let's put theater 1 at the front and then confuse the heck out of people by putting theater 2 at the end of the theater while we watch them stumble around, checking around every corner and their ticket multiple times looking like an IDIOT. after i found the logically-placed-theater, i find my friends and sit down, taking a breath. you would think my saga would be over at this point right? think again. i put down my bag "leaning" against the seat in front of me. a few minutes later, i reach for my bag to silence my phone and suddenly realize my bag is not there anymore. i frantically look around me, thinking someone had to of stolen it in the 3 minutes i had been there. i finally found it, slipped through the crack and in the process spilled all of its contents on the nasty-as-heck floor of the movie theater. pretty sure i put my hand in gum, and something questionably sticky. this is all while the freaking CHIPMUNKS MOVIE TRAILER is going on, which is unbearable to watch/hear in the first place, let alone while i'm trying to put back together my bag contents and dignity. to make myself feel a little better, i said (loudly) "KILL ME NOW." which at least resulted in a few chuckles from the other movie-goers. my question is why does there need to be another chipmunk movie??? WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE?!!! the people that made that movie should just kill themselves instead of living with the fact that they have created a monster of a "movie" with animated, helium-voiced CHIPMUNKS. and reproduced. multiple times.
ANYWAY.... i gather my bag to put it next to me and as i'm coming up, i hit my funny-bone SO hard that it bruised. i have never hit it that bad or have felt so much pain.
good thing the movie more than made up for my troubles!!
i will post some pictures later because this post is already WAY too long. so i'm sorry (again) for the length. i hope at least some of you will find my debacle amusing in some way :)
til next time (with ONLY pictures, i promise),
