hello fellow bloggers - (or creepers creepin on my blog...)
i just found my blog from a year ago....totally forgot i had it. and since i don't feel like doing homework or anything else productive, i thought i would write down a few of my thoughts while i'm here. warning - i don't capitalize anything due to laziness. my apologies to my mother who is an english teacher. or should i say English teacher :) anyhow, today is tuesday, and i've been at college since thursday....feels like a lot longer in some ways. with orientation, classes, meeting people left and right, and being away from everything i know is overwhelming to say the least. as hard as it was for me, i know that it will be so worth it in the end. the funny thing about college is that no one (well 99.9% of people) don't know who i am - which can be both good and bad. you have an opportunity to completely reinvent yourself if you want, but on the other hand, if you liked who you were in high school, no one knows about that at college. it's a learning process for sure.
yesterday, on monday i had two classes - my USEM (university seminar for you non-SPUers/alumni) which is what all freshmen are required to take. they all have different topics, but the primary purpose of them is to make the transition into university life be a little easier. on saturday, we had CityQuest which was a day of community service with our USem class. my class went to an apple orchard in seattle (yes, there is one) and spread mulch, cut blackberry bushes, and picked up trash on a trail. nothing brings people together like community service! but seriously, it was a great way to get to know my classmates. my USEM class has....be prepared....about 18 girls and 2 BOYS. two. my class is a little unusual because it's a class studying Frederick Buechner and involves a lot of reading. alright moving on.....my next class was spanish 1102. i'm so fortunate to have one of my friends from high school and church, taylor in my spanish class. (we even had spanish in high school together!) i wasn't exactly sure what to expect, and i'm glad i didn't have any expectations. because if i did, they would be blown. my teacher talked in spanish nearly the entire hour and 20 minutes. as daunting as that sounds, it's surprising how much comes back to you. taylor was there to witness my embarrassing moment when my teacher asked me what high school i went to and i thought he was asking my name. ha oh well! my teacher is ghanaian (?) and can speak english, spanish, french, and creole. i want to be quad-lingual! haha.... stay posted on if i survive that class!
today i only had one class, literature and faith. i think i'm going to like this class. minus the two hour part of it. we already have an assignment - to begin reading confessions by st. augustine. i've only read like 4 pages and my mind is already blown. i might even start a blog dedicated to that book. good stuff! my teacher seems really cool, and i think i might even pay attention the whole time! the class size is really nice too - only about 25 ish. that's another thing i love about college - the class sizes. you don't feel like you're lost in a crowd, conversely you don't feel like you HAVE to speak because it's so tiny.
other/this & that:
i love my floor! 1ST WEST ASHTON!!!! the girls are so nice and i feel bonded with them already. it's nice not having to walk up 2+ flights of stairs after the god-awful hill i have to walk up to get to ashton. such a blessing. hmm what else....the food is really good. i know in a few months i might not be saying the same thing, but for a college, it's way above average. as far as i'm concerned, any place with self-serve ice cream is the place for me. all of my classes are in the same building, in the same hallway. how convenient! i've been listening to pandora nonstop....sorry roommate/floormates if you are getting irritated haha. i have yet to do laundry, i am slowly learning how to rationalize my clothing. my dorm room looks out onto a basketball court, and i would like to point out that 7:45 am is TOO EARLY TO PLAY BASKETBALL!
that's all :)
i realize this is a small novel, and if you actually read all of it, congratulations.
love!
